| ABOUT WALSIN TECHNOLOGY |
|   |
|
WTC has been engaged in the R&D, manufacture and sale of passive components since 1985 and at present, is the No.1 manufacturer of Surface Mount Multi-Layer Chip Capacitors (MLCCs) and Positive Temperature Coefficient Resistors (PTCRs) in Taiwan.
In global market terms, WTC will be one of the Top Ten manufacturers of MLCCs, Sensing and Controlling products and Chip Rs by the year 2000.
In the light of recent corporate streamlining, upgrades in production facilities, the successful release of new products and ongoing research and development into high-end versions of existing lines, these goals are more than realistic. During 1996 alone, WTC's Multi-Layer Chip Inductors (MLCI) and Beads, Chip Arrays and Zinc oxide Varistors were launched. These products have already gained wide customer acceptance. WTC also moved into full production of consumer rechargeable Nickel Metal Hydride Batteries (NiMH). These batteries have high energy density, are cadmium free and have no environment impact. By the year 2000, we will be the number one NiMH batteries manufacturer in Taiwan, supplying the global needs of the consumer electronics(cellular telephones, notebooks), electric bicycle and electric scooter markets. One of the key contributors to WTCs success has been our ongoing commitment to research and development : we reinvest 8% of corporate earnings in R&D annually. This has enabled us to be responsive to the rapidly changing demands of the market. Fourteen new R&D initiatives are currently in the pipeline. Investment in 1997 alone will be 80% above previous levels in order to support these new projects. Their focus will be on extending our current product range, for instance, to high-end Chip Capacitors (high capacity, frequency and voltage), higher frequency Chip Inductors and a wider range of Degausser resistance levels. By the year 2000, WTC will have established a substantial global presence and the infrastructure to support this growth. By this year we will have established over ten subsidiaries and a number of plants on foreign soil. Fifty percent of this goal will have been achieved by the end of 1998. We are also constantly expanding our global distribution network in order to be ever-closer to our customers. |
